STORYTELLING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD

Some things are easier to meet through story. Explore traditional tales, symbolism and archetypal patterns — and the role stories can play in imagination, language, emotional development and wellbeing.

THE OLD STORIES CARRY SOMETHING

Forests. Wolves. Witches. Journeys. Helpers. Loss. Danger. Transformation. Traditional tales have survived because they speak in a language deeper than explanation alone.

WE DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING

Children often meet stories differently from adults. The work is not always to reveal the moral or explain the symbol. Sometimes our role is simply to offer the story, hold the space and allow meaning to unfold.

WHAT WE EXPLORE

• traditional storytelling

• symbolism and recurring archetypal patterns

• story and emotional development

• imagination and language

• fear, challenge and transformation

• choosing stories thoughtfully

• telling without over-explaining

• allowing children to make their own meaning

• bringing storytelling back into everyday practice

WHO IS IT FOR?

Early years practitioners, teachers, childminders, storytellers and anyone interested in the place of story, symbolism and imagination within childhood.

BRING STORY BACK INTO THE ROOM
